Management Information System ( Credit 3 )
Course Objectives
This course provides with the basic understanding of management information systems process and its various components. As the managerial perspective, the course intends to provide basic knowledge on how the information has been generated, processed, stored, and disseminated among the various departments and individuals within the organizational system.
Course Details
Unit I: Introduction
Management information system (MIS) and its importance in organizations; linkage between general management process and MIS; contemporary approaches to MIS; role of MIS in organizational digitization; learning to use information systems; and key components of MIS.
Unit II: MIS in an Enterprise
MIS as the systems approach to management; major type of systems in organizations; systems from a functional perspective; systems for supply chain management, systems for customer relationship management, and knowledge management.
Unit III: MIS Organization, Management, and Strategy
Organizations and information systems; changing role of information systems in organizations; managers, decision-making, and information system; and information systems and business strategy.
Unit IV: Applications of MIS
Applications in manufacturing and service sector, applications in internet-based business sector, applications in decision support systems, applications in monitoring organizational performance, and information security and control.
