Industrial Visit to Balaju Industrial District
According to the approved Academic/Activity Calendar, 17 students of second semester, MBA 10th and 11th batches, accompanied by the Deputy Program Coordinator undertook a very interesting and informative industrial tour to Balaju Industrial District and visited Dairy Development Corporation and Nebico Private Limited on 11 December 2015.
During the visit to Nebico Private Limited, Mr. Roshan Shrestha, Senior Production Manager showed the production plant, where the students learnt how wheat flour is converted to cookies. The production plant was equipped with both electrical and diesel systems, however the diesel plant has been non-functioning for the last month due to the fuel crisis.
In the Q A session, following the visit, the students enquired about the current business challenges, post earthquake effect on the FMCG market, future growth market, challenges posed by multinational products as well as opportunities and threats in the Nepalese market.
The students also visited the factory of Dairy Development Corporation. Mr. Naresh Joshi, the senior production manager of DDC, explained briefly about DDC, the organization structure of the company and the history behind the establishment of DDC. He showed the factory. The company first started to process 500 liters of milk daily. Today, DDC processes more than 1,30,000 liter of milk daily only from Balaju plant.
What was very interesting was to know how the company maintains the quality for its three varieties of milk packets. The supply chain management to dispatch the milk from the factory at 1am and to deliver by 6 in the morning from its two distribution channels in Kathmandu valley was very impressive.
The industrial visit was very enlightening. Students not only got an insight into Nepal’s two leading companies but understood the gap between domain based information and real market scenario.
