KDBC signs Memorandum of Understanding with Angelo State University, Texas, USA

On 28 October 2015, Kathmandu Don Bosco College (KDBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Angelo State University (ASU), located in San Angelo, Texas, USA. The MoU was signed by Prof. Brian J May, President of ASU, and Prof. Sriram Bhagut Mathe, Executive Chairman of KDBC. The signed MoU paves the way for academic collaboration, joint research and consultancy, as well as exchange of faculty and students. During the signing ceremony, President May expressed his happiness on the signing and hoped that this would result in increased academic collaboration as well as greater flow of Nepalese students to ASU. Prof. Mathe stated that KDBC does not want this MoU to be just a piece of paper but the basis to offer some ASU’s academic programs as well as undertake joint academic collaboration, including joint research and consultancy. Prof. Mathe hoped that KDBC and ASU could agree to offer 2+2 BBA program in the near future. If the collaboration goes well, Prof. Mathe assured that many Nepalese students could apply to ASU every year. Hopefully, this MoU will lead to the signing of a detailed Memorandum of Agreement some time early next year, which will enable students to do 2 years of undergraduate program in Nepal and the last 2 years of their undergraduate studies in ASU.

Prof. Mathe, along with Mr. Kapil Regmi, Executive Director of KDBC, and Ms. Samjhana Kharel visited ASU from 26 – 30 October, on the invitation from ASU particularly, College of Business and College of Arts and Sciences. In course of the visit, Prof. Mathe made a formal presentation on KDBC’s expectations from the collaboration with ASU to the Dean of the College of Business, Prof. Clifton Jones, Associate Dean, Prof. Sharynn Tomlin as well as the faculty of College of Business and had detailed discussions on the possibility of offering 2+2 undergraduate program.

The KDBC delegation also met the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Paul Swets, Chairperson of Department of Visual and Performing Arts as well as many faculty members, as well as the Executive Director (Asian Affairs) and Director of International Studies.

KDBC in association with Kanjirowa National School had organized an art competition in Kathmandu in October 2015 and the best 30 artworks were exhibited during the MoU signing ceremony and these were handed over to the West Texas collection in ASU.

The delegation inspected various facilities and were very impressed with the resources available with the University. The delegation also visited the Small Business Center to know how the small businesses were incubated.

The KDBC delegation also met the Mayor of San Angelo and other city officials as well as the President and other office-bearers of the Chamber of Commerce and also gave an interview to San Angelo Standard Times and a TV and radio channels.

After the ASU visit, Mr. Kapil Dev Regmi also visited Maastricht School of Management in Holland and Wirtschaft University in Austria to discuss and explore possible academic collaboration in future.
