Mr. Bhatnagar`s Talk
As part of the monthly distinguished speaker series, Kathmandu Don Bosco College (KDBC) invited Mr. Anukool Bhatnagar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Administrative Head and Director of Nepal SBI Bank Ltd. on 25 Feb 2017 to share his rich experiences, spanning 30 years in State Bank of India, with the MBA and EMBA students. He has held several important positions in the past viz.: Regional Manager of Regional Business office, Haldwani, AGM (HR) of Local Head Office (LHO), New Delhi, AGM of Commercial Branch, Jaipur and Chief Manager & PS to CGM, LHO, New Delhi and DGM (B & O) at SBI, Administrative Office, Indore.
The Speaker was introduced and welcomed by the KDBC Chairman, Prof. Dr. Sriram Bhagut Mathe.
In his lecture, Mr. Bhatnagar shared his brief bio and his past journey as a government officer and social servant. He shared his ideologies of looking at the investment and innovation in the banking industry from the ancient times till the present day. When Prof. Mathe raised a question regarding the current liquidity position of the country, he explained the background and pointed out that the banking system in Nepal, unlike in India, is investing heavily on the so-called exploitative/speculative market and in consumer goods, including lending for automobiles and motorcycles and not investing in the manufacturing and other industries. This could be because of the tendency to look for quick returns and profits as well as the uncertain industrial climate and union issues. He also explained that the uncertain political system and the policies have encouraged a business culture, in which there is conflict of interest in various appointments and business dealings.
He motivated the participants to think and contribute towards the upliftment of country through their association and reflections. He shared his organizational values and cultural norms as well as employee training importance. He also shared about the technology and HR practices in Nepal SBI and their zero compromise with the computer system, and remarked that their software system is best in Nepal.
As per him, a country’s long-term development depends on the appropriate revenue generation and its utilization and due emphasis on professionalism and technological innovation.
He asked students to be factual and believe in their potential and work to achieve their dreams.
It was really an inspiring and incredible session and Kathmandu Don Bosco College is deeply appreciative of Mr. Bhatnagar.
